Celebrating Dizzy Gillespie w/ the Jon Faddis Quartet
Oakland-born trumpet legend Jon Faddis pays tribute to his friend and mentor Dizzy Gillespie with this historic performance and SFJAZZ debut. First meeting his idol at age 12 in San Francisco, Faddis went on to become the director of the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars. For this unforgettable night, Faddis will be joined by acclaimed pianist David Hazeltine, bass great Kiyoshi Kitagawa, and GRAMMY-winning drummer Dion Parson, performing a wealth of Gillespie classics including excerpts from Lalo Schifrin’s 1960 suite “Gillespiana.”
