SFJAZZ Education

SFJAZZ serves thousands of adults and youth in communities across the Bay Area with a dynamic and innovative array of educational programs in the concert hall, classroom, and community.

The mission of SFJAZZ Education is to reach, develop and nurture current and future musicians and audiences by providing rich, innovative, interactive and informative programming in jazz appreciation, creation and performance within our diverse communities.

Exciting educational programs designed for children and adults, aspiring musicians and experienced singers and instrumentalists. Workshops, master classes, digital labs, jazz appreciation lectures and more!

Established in 2001, the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars program brings together the finest young Bay Area jazz musicians— annually selected by audition—to perform, record, compose and participate in national festivals and competitions, and receive mentoring from world-class artists such as the SFJAZZ Collective.

SFJAZZ Education brings world-class jazz artists out of the concert hall and into the community, connecting youth and adults, students and professionals, musicians and non-musicians, and artists and audiences of all ages with a diverse array of interactive workshops.

Free to San Francisco public middle schools, Jazz in the Middle is a residency program that brings live jazz into the schools to support academic learning, fostering the connections between language arts and social studies curricula with jazz music while building partnerships with community organizations such as Youth Speaks.
