Giulia Valle Group - SHOW CANCELLED
A rising star on Barcelona’s fervently creative jazz scene, Italian-born bassist Giulia Valle immersed herself in the European classical tradition at the Liceo Conservatory, but honed her jazz chops in New York City studying with Scott Colley and Ben Street. She’s forged close ties with other American masters such as Jason Lindner, Jeff Williams, Gerald Cleaver, and John McNeil, who featured her on 2003’s This Way Out (OmniTone). She made her debut as a leader the following with Colorista (Fresh Sound New Talent), a startlingly beautiful session that captured her cosmopolitan vision of jazz laced with Spanish, Brazilian, and Argentine influences. The healthy bonds linking Barcelona and New York City continue to invigorate her music, while she’s released a string of excellent sessions for FSNT showcasing her commanding bass work and emotionally nuanced compositions. Valle makes her Bay Area debut with her prodigious working band, a quintet featuring some of Spain’s most interesting players, including saxophonists Gorka Benítez and Martí Serra, 25-year-old Marco Mezquida on piano and Fender Rhodes, and drummer Daniel Dominguez Vazquez.
