Season 1 will heat up with a fiery procession of Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican artists gracing the stage of the Miner Auditorium. Latin jazz luminary and SFJAZZ Education Director Rebeca Mauleón showcases her Afro Kuban Fusion during Grand Opening Week 2, followed by Juan de Marcos and his Afro-Cuban All Stars later in the month. Resident Artistic Director John Santos presents his Filosofía Caribeña II as well Pavel Urkiza and Ricardo Pons' De Akokán project, Papo Vazquez Mighty Pirates Troubadours and Uncommon Time with piano star Omar Sosa. Miguel Zenón performs in several settings during his week as a Resident Artistic Director, including his hard-hitting Rhythm Collective, his Alma Adentro ensemble, his large group multi-media piece Identities, and an evening of duets with pianist Luis Perdomo and percussionist Paoli Mejias.
