About J.J. Johnson
J.J. Johnson needs no introduction, he is considered by many in the jazz world as the finest trombonist to ever pick up the instrument. Widely knows for his work with Kai Winding in the ‘50s, his extensive career has also allowed him to perform with the likes of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins. Johnson’s notoriety kept him popular well into the ‘60s & ‘70s - although he was rarely playing at this this time, focusing his attention on scoring film and television shows. Near the end of his life, Johnson fell ill to prostate cancer and unfortunately took his life, but his legacy lives on today.
