Wild Women of the Blues w/ Pamela Rose & Friends
Wild Women of the Blues
The Classic Blues Women who dominated popular music in the 1920's helped shape and define not only American music but created an image of a new, powerful, independent minded woman that still has reverberations in our culture today.
Join educator, storyteller and vocalist Pamela Rose as she celebrates Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Ida Cox, Sippie Wallace, Alberta Hunter and others in this vibrant, multimedia program. With a band fronted by Tammy Hall on piano, Kris Strom on sax and others, Rose will use performance, audio and video clips and lecture format to bring these Wild Women of Blues to life. Rose's show 'Wild Women of Song: Great Gal Composers of the Jazz Era" about women composers is a nationally touring tour de force. Small wonder - shining a light on the important contributions women have made in American Music is a task Rose seems to have been born to do.
