SFLINKS@SFJAZZ – The Keys to Wellness Concert
This benefit concert presented by The San Francisco Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will continue SF Links' tradition of promoting Jazz as an American art form, a healing force and experience for wellness. This intergenerational event creates a unique opportunity for our families, friends and community, as jazz music in all its dimensions is a holistic way to communicate and relate with one another; speaking to our hearts and our souls.
Proceeds from this concert will further our outreach, SFLinksConnect, and our signature preventive health and wellness campaign, Building Healthy Communities Together, in partnership with community organizations serving San Franciscans.
About Jason Moran, Randy Weston, Billy Harper
An ambitiously creative musician, Jason Moran is a probing conceptualist who is one of the most acclaimed musicians in modern jazz, winning the MacArthur Foundation “genius” award in 2010. An NEA Jazz Master and 2011 Guggenheim Fellow, Randy Weston’s impact has been enormous. A disciple of Thelonious Monk, numerous visits to Africa and living in Morocco have brought a powerful African influence to his work as a pianist, composer and innovator. Fiery saxophonist Billy Harper has built upon the legacy of the great John Coltrane, infusing his monstrous chops with a deeply lyrical sensibility. A veteran of drumming legend Art Blakey’s immortal Jazz Messengers, Harper released a procession of seminal albums rife with themes of social consciousness.
