Jazz history, live performance, classic audio and exciting video make Koret Discover Jazz the most distinctive jazz appreciation course available for adults.

Join vocalist, educator and Bay Area treasure Linda Tillery on a six-week exploration of music and rhythms of the African Diaspora. Participants will learn African chants, African-American spirituals, field hollers, work songs, children’s play songs, ring shouts, traditional Afro-Caribbean songs and music from the Gullah traditions of Georgia and South Carolina. Class sessions will include lots of singing, plus the use of videos and recordings to stimulate discussion. Articles and reflections that are rooted in the socio-historical experiences of African-Americans and Africans will be incorporated into a simple course reader.
