SFLINKS@SFJAZZ - The Keys to Wellness Concert

This benefit concert presented by The San Francisco Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will continue SF Links' tradition of promoting Jazz as an American art form, a healing force and experience for wellness. This inter-generational event creates a unique opportunity for our families, friends and community, as jazz music in all its dimensions is a holistic way to communicate and relate with one another; speaking to our hearts and our souls.

One of the highlights of this year’s event will be the presentation of the “2017 SFLinksConnect Awards” to Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, Founder of the Center for Youth Wellness (CYW) and pioneer in the field of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs); Alicia Garza, co-founder of Black Lives Matter; and the 3.9 Art Collective, an association of African American artists, curators, and art writers committed to creative expression, and the ideals and narratives of a diverse San Francisco. The San Francisco Links are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of these exemplary Honorees.

Proceeds from this concert will further SFLinksConnect, our programming outreach through our signature leadership and education program, Mentoring Across the Miles, Liberia and preventive health and wellness program, Building Healthy Communities Together, in partnership with community organizations serving San Franciscans and beyond.

Hosted reception immediately following the concert.

ABOUT THE SFJAZZ COLLECTIVE:
For the SFJAZZ Center’s fifth season, our resident all-star ensemble presents new arrangements of music by the genius jazz innovator Miles Davis, and freshly minted compositions by the band. More than any other figure, Davis changed the sound of jazz – not once, but consistently over his career – from the birth of bebop in the 1940s to the integration of rock approaches that gave rise to the fusion movement in the 1970s. The Collective highlights the trumpeter and composer’s immense diversity of expression, interpreting epochal work from Davis’ endlessly inventive songbook. The music from the Collective’s new album release, documenting the work of Miles Davis and original compositions, was recorded during Season 5 and released in 2017.

An all-star ensemble comprising eight of the finest performer/composers at work in jazz today, the SFJAZZ Collective’s mission each year is to perform fresh arrangements of works by a modern master and newly commissioned pieces by each Collective member. Through this pioneering approach, simultaneously honoring music’s greatest figures while championing jazz’s up-to-the-minute directions, the Collective embodies SFJAZZ’s commitment to jazz as a living, ever-relevant art form.
