Maz | SFJAZZ
"I didn't know you sing!!" An outburst Mike "Maz" Maher has become used to hearing. For the past ten years he's been building a reputation as a trumpeter and composer for the multi-GRAMMY award winning group, Snarky Puppy. Truth is, Maz has been singing and writing songs since he was a teenager, and he hasn't lost his flair for it. His song writing encompasses jazz, rock, soul, and electronic, and is perhaps only overshadowed by his ability to captivate audiences with the soulful intimacy of his voice. He celebrates the release of his ultra-funky second solo album with a phenomenal band including fellow Snarky Puppy members Bob Lanzetti on guitar and Justin Stanton on keyboards and trumpet as well as drummer Jason 'JT' Thomas (RH factor, Snarky Puppy, Marcus Miller), vocalist Shayna Steele (Rihanna), and bassist Jay White (Jonathan Scales Fourchestra). Emerging as a major young talent from the creative cauldron of University of North Texas along with many of his Snarky Puppy bandmates, Maher toured with UNT’s acclaimed One O’Clock Lab Band and has lent his talents to work with Diane Birch, Lucy Woodward, Andrew Rose Gregory (of the Gregory Brothers), Myron Butler & Levi, Linnzi Zaorski, Marianne Bennett, The Hudson Project and Danny Ross, among others.
