ABOUT THIS SHOW
From her start as a four-year-old prodigy on Harlem’s Apollo Theater stage at the urging of vocal legend Dinah Washington and her years as an in-demand session singer in the 1970s, to her life as an R&B hit maker and her recent salute to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, Patti Austin is an American original. She performs three shows following her evening as honoree and SFJAZZ Lifetime Achievement Award recipient at SFJAZZ Gala 2024.
Working as a studio artist and appearing on countless commercial jingles as a teen, Austin achieved her first chart success with the 1969 single “A Family Tree,” and released her celebrated debut, End of a Rainbow, for producer Creed Taylor’s CTI Records in 1976. She has recorded 23 albums over her five-decade career, including the 2008 Best Jazz Vocal Album GRAMMY winner Avant Gershwin, and scored a Billboard #1 hit with her 1982 duet with James Ingram, “Baby, Come to Me.”
Beyond her work as a solo artist, she has collaborated with a staggering list of modern masters including Quincy Jones, James Brown, James Ingram, Joe Cocker, Diana Ross, Roberta Flack, Donald Fagen, Burt Bacharach, Dave Grusin and many others.
Her most recent album is the sequel to her 2002 Fitzgerald tribute For Ella, 2023’s For Ella 2, featuring Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. Next year, Patti Austin will be celebrating 70 years in music.

Patrons who bought tickets to the May 12th 7PM concert will be issued new physical tickets to the address that were associated with the original orders.
Patrons with tickets to the May 12th 2PM concert will be honored at the rescheduled Saturday, May 11th 3PM show. We will not be issuing new tickets for this performance.
